Reach the Dominican Republic

Offshore Finance & Accountancy Jobs in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has been a popular holiday destination, for both Europeans and Americans, for many years due to the white-sand beaches, waterfalls and transparent turquoise seas.  A recent shift in the country’s focus onto commerce and its quest for economic stability, has also created choice career opportunities for those seeking to benefit from an offshore jurisdiction.

DR occupies two thirds of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola boarding the Republic of Haiti. Hispaniola lies west of Puerto Rica and east of Cuba and Jamaica.  The capital of Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo. Tourism, and the DR's free-trade zones, have become major employers and key sources of revenue. Sugar, coffee and tobacco are among the main exports.

/offshoremaps/dominican-repEnjoying a year round privileged tropical maritime climate, the latitude of the island places it at the border of the tropical zone. The wet season is between May and November with periodic hurricanes appearing between June and November. Temperatures vary depending on your location on the island, morning temperatures in mountainous regions can be 70°F/ 21°C with coastal areas soaring to 90°F/ 32°C at noon.

The largely mountainous country includes Pico Duarte - the highest point in the West Indies, the fertile Cibao Valley, swathes of desert, and Lake Enriquillo - the lowest point in the region.

Western influence is seen in the colonial buildings of the capital, Santo Domingo, as well as in art and literature. African heritage is reflected in music. The two heritages blend in the popular song and dance, the merengue.

The government of the Dominican Republic is based on that of the United States with the President of the Dominican Republic acting as both head of state and head of government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of national congress.

Flights take between 10 to 11 hours from the UK and usually require a short stop on the American mainland.
